JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2026
The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee will release the official eligibility rules for JEE Advanced 2026 in its information brochure. As per previous years, candidates must clear JEE Main and be among the top 2,50,000 qualifiers. A maximum of two consecutive attempts is allowed.
Key Eligibility Criteria
✔️ Criterion 1 – Performance in JEE Main
Candidates must rank in the top 2,50,000 of JEE Main B.E./B.Tech. Reservation-based distribution:
- GEN-EWS – 10%
- OBC-NCL – 27%
- SC – 15%
- ST – 7.5%
- OPEN – 40.5%
- PwD – 5% horizontal across categories
Note: Numbers may exceed 2,50,000 due to tied ranks.
✔️ Criterion 2 – Age Limit
Born on or after October 1, 2001. Relaxation of 5 years applies for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
✔️ Criterion 3 – Number of Attempts
Maximum 2 attempts in consecutive years.
✔️ Criterion 4 – Class 12 Qualification
- First attempt in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- Candidates appearing in 2024 or earlier are not eligible.
Accepted equivalents to Class 12: CBSE/State Boards, NIOS, IB Diploma, AIU-recognized foreign boards, NDA exams, AICTE-approved 3-year diplomas, GCE A-levels, etc.
✔️ Criterion 5 – Earlier Admissions to IITs
- Students already admitted to an IIT are not eligible.
- Exceptions: candidates who withdrew before final round, had admission cancelled, or joined preparatory courses may re-apply.
Eligibility for Foreign Students
Foreign nationals (up to 10% of seats) may apply. They must have completed Class 12 or equivalent in 2025/2026.

Cutoff Eligibility for JEE Advanced 2026
- Top 20 percentile cutoff decided annually by boards.
- PwD cutoff equals lowest cutoff among all categories.
- 2025 Class 12 students evaluated using 2025 cutoff; 2026 candidates with 2026 cutoff.
- Reattempting candidates must reappear in all subjects.
- Board certificate required if percentile cutoff is not declared.
